work in the island of Antikythira (South Greece - 17 miles from
Crete) - Bird ringing on Antikythira
island
Project Description :
The study of bird migration by ringing, the study
of the migration of raptors, the monitoring and protection of
some important bird species, with emphasis on the Eleonora's
Falcon and the training in bird migration.
Duration: 15 of March - 31
of May, 15 of August-31 of October
Minimum period of staying: 2 weeks
No. of volunteers needed: 7 volunteers in total, 2-3 with ringing
licence A, 2-3 with ringing licence C, 2 for training.
Qualifications: Ringing skills (ringing license
A or C, not for trainees), ornithological background, English
speaking.
Accommodation: The volunteers stay at the building
of Antikythira Ornithological Station, at a distance of only
one-Km from the ringing station (10-min walking distance).
Expense coverage: The volunteers are responsible
for their travel costs. Basic food is available at the Station.
Cost: For non members 30 euros
Equipment needed: Sleeping bag, binoculars.
